What to expect during your first session
What happens in my first session?
In your first appointment, you and your therapist will have a chance to meet each other and talk about the issues that have brought you to therapy. Your therapist will also ask questions to help them understand the wider context and your lifestyle in more depth. It’s also an opportunity for your therapist to tell you more about how they work, their process and what you can expect in the coming weeks. They will also help you decide what your goals might look like and a number of sessions to begin with. Above all else, your first session is a way to speak to a therapist with no obligation to continue. As a result, you can be certain you have found the right fit before continuing with your therapy.
Are the things I tell my therapist confidential?
Absolutely. Our carefully chosen therapists are all regulated by the appropriate authorities and take your privacy as seriously as we do. There is one exception to this confidentiality, however. If you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else, your therapist may need to contact other professionals such as your GP. For this reason and in case of emergency, your therapist will ask for details of your GP. Of course, your therapist will always discuss contacting your GP with you first.
